Technical questions

So when I came over to Squarespace, I thought all my old posts would be easily searchable. It turns out that Google indexed them through the old Typepad category pages and by month, not by individual post. So people can search and see the teasers, but not get to the actual posts.  (Because Typepad’s categorization doesn’t exist anymore now that the URL points to Squarespace.)

Does anyone know what I can do to make this not happen? Is it just a matter of waiting until Google reindexes everything?

My other option, I think, is to go through all 1600 posts and build pages for them here. But then we’d still have to wait for Google to find those, wouldn’t we?

Also, I’m in the process of figuring out how to fix the RSS feed.

  1. Thanks for helping me trouble-shoot that yesterday, Magda. For other folks encountering this, try removing the /comments/page2 part of the URL you’re looking for and add a .html. It worked for me yesterday, and I was able to find and read some very helpful and supportive comments from the Moxie community about struggling through the dark days of 3.5.

  2. If you are able to "find" a page using google search, there will be a small drop-down arrow to the right of the URL. You can click that and choose ‘Cached’ to see a cached version of the page. Not a permanent solution, but it does solve the immediate "I can’t view that" problem.

  3. Is there any way at least you can add an index of the posts, by year/month? That would help – for instance, if search shows that a post of interest was made in October 2006, at least being able to navigate to that month would help people find things.
